We are Sally & Dan, and this our family with our lovely children Clayton & Harvey. Nice to meet you!

 

Dan and I met in December 2018 (when i finally gave him the location for our first date). I weighed 27 stone and was a size 32 clothing (UK) with an obese BMI of 70!!

When we met I'd only just started my weight loss journey -which is still going as smoothly as our freshly made sauce, but more about that later. 

 

Dan was a chef at the time, he had worked in many prestigious restaurants across in Kent. He began working in the food industry over 20 years ago as a chef in London, then moved to Kent and continued in the kitchens. He then spent some time working in a butchers - so he can give you all the knowledge on cuts of meat and food wastage etc. He found he missed the creativity & buzz of a busy professional kitchen, so dusted off his chef whites and returned to the kitchen, where he reignited his passion for dazzling taste buds with his devilish flavour wizardry.

 

I have my own cake making business (Bun In The Oven Cakery) which I started when i was pregnant with Harvey in 2015. I worked in a restaurant from the age of 17 and studied hospitality and patisserie at college. Then I began my business, slowly building it over time, starting with celebration cakes, then expanding into the treats and savoury side, attending markets across Kent and entering competitions. When I met Dan, he helped me develop more recipes, so all our recipes are our own, which we created together after hours of experimenting.  Our recipe development sessions were like culinary date nights, filled with giggles & culinary flair, lots of hard work and most importantly, taste testing!

 

During "Covid Lockdown" we re-evaluated how we spent our time as a family. Dan used to work demanding hours from 8am - midnight some days which meant he barely saw the children. So when he was furloughed during lockdown, we spent 24/7 together as a family and really enjoyed the valuable time together. After working non stop during the "Eat Out To Help Out" months, Dan decided to leave the hospitality industry, so he could spend more time with us as a family.

His passion for food never left him though, still continuing to help me develop recipes. On my weight loss journey, Dan played a huge role with his knowledge of food and nutrition.

In our household, Dan does the cooking. That's just what works for us. However I'm left with washing up the plethora of pots and utensils he's used.

So with Dan at the kitchen helm, my weight loss was in safe hands.  Dan's culinary prowess has been my secret ingredient, topped with some determination and will power.

 

I had lost 10 stone by 2023 but it was beginning to slow down and become frustrating. So I joined a popular national weight loss group, which really boosted my weight loss and confidence. I made some fantastic friends here, who often try Dan's cooking and thoroughly enjoy it knowing the food they were eating complied with their dietary goals. We found, although plenty of recipes were available provided by the weight loss group, the dishes weren't giving that full satisfaction of flavour. It still felt like I was on a diet, having to compromise. So over 2 years, without even realising, we had created a repertoire of low fat, full flavour recipes to fit with the plan guidelines, which we had for dinner each night. We replaced ingredients like butter, cream and coconut milk with low fat / low sugar  substitutes that we've created, having failed to find any convenient alternatives without compromising on flavour. Friends often joked that we should open a healthy eating restaurant, but having worked in hospitality for 30 years between us, it's not something we wanted to return to. 

 

We wanted to share our dishes with the world, but also, Dan wanted to share his passion for cooking with you. His vast knowledge and skills can help anyone feel like a pro in the kitchen - even me. I prefer to stick to my baking, but even I am confident enough to make these recipes. It's so simple, even our children make them!

 

With Dan's incredible cooking, some exercise and will power, I'm now a healthy BMI, size 12-14 and weigh just over 13 stone. My journey continues, but i know I'm in safe hands with my food consumption using our sauces and recipes every day. The weight loss has completely changed my life. I'm now able to run around with our children, without feeling out of breath or embarrassed. I can now live a long, full life watching the children grow up. You can often find Dan and I at music festivals or concerts which I'm now able to dance for hours at.

 

U Saucy Devil was born from our desire to provide a cheeky little treat (like a takeaway) that's still a "good" choice. Our playful personalities shine through each creation including our fun-loving Devil Level. We spend many an evening bouncing around ideas when we've both finished working our other jobs, injecting personality into everything we do and turning our family life into a fun-filled culinary adventure.

 

Food is a huge part of our everyday life - we often host dinner parties or enjoy a family meal together. We want to make it a big part of your every day life too, with ease.
